Syedena Hazrat Abu Muhammad Is'haq Al-Mutamen Al-Hussaini (A.S)

Syedena Hazrat Abu Muhammad Is'haq Al-Mutamen Al-Hussaini (A.S) was a distinguished son of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (A.S) and a direct descendant of Imam Hussain (A.S). He belonged to the blessed household of the Ahl-e-Bait and is remembered in Islamic biographical and genealogical traditions for his piety, dignity, learning and trustworthiness.

His life belongs to the generation surrounding Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (A.S) and Imam Musa al-Kazim (A.S), placing him close to one of the most important periods in the transmission of Islamic knowledge. His title Al-Mutamen reflects the reputation for trust and reliability associated with him.

A Direct Ahl-e-Bait Lineage

Being the son of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (A.S), Is'haq grew within a household renowned for learning, worship and the preservation of Islamic knowledge. His close family circle included Imam Musa al-Kazim (A.S), his brother.

The honorific Al-Mutamen carries the meaning of one who is trusted or considered worthy of trust. Classical genealogical and biographical writings preserve this title with his name and associate him with virtue, righteousness and reliability.

His reputation is particularly important because the Islamic scholarly tradition depended upon trustworthy transmitters to preserve reports and teachings. Is'haq's name appears in the early transmission history surrounding the family of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (A.S).

Is'haq was the full brother of Imam Musa al-Kazim (A.S). Following the passing of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (A.S), questions arose among different groups concerning succession. Historical sources record that some people considered Is'haq for the position of Imamate.

In the Imami historical tradition, however, Is'haq himself recognized the Imamate of his brother Musa al-Kazim (A.S) and is remembered as having transmitted reports concerning his brother's designation. This distinction is central to understanding his place in the history of the Ahl-e-Bait.

A Link in the Chain of Knowledge

Biographical works record Is'haq as a transmitter from his father, Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (A.S), and from his brother Imam Musa al-Kazim (A.S). His place in these chains reflects the importance of his family environment in preserving the teachings of the Ahl-e-Bait.

Remembered for Reliability

Early biographical descriptions associate him with trustworthiness, virtue and dignity. His title Al-Mutamen itself became an enduring part of his historical identity.

Is'haq al-Mutamen was married to Sayyida Nafisa bint al-Hassan ibn Zayd ibn al-Hassan (A.S), a distinguished descendant of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (A.S). Their marriage brought together two noble branches descending from the household of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W): the Hussaini lineage of Is'haq and the Hasani lineage of Sayyida Nafisa.

Sayyida Nafisa later became especially renowned for her devotion, worship, knowledge and generosity, and her memory became deeply associated with the history of the Ahl-e-Bait in Egypt.

A Continuing Lineage

Classical genealogical works preserve branches of Is'haq's descendants and trace the continuation of his family through later generations. His descendants became part of the wider network of Sayyid families spread across different regions of the Islamic world.
