INTRODUCTION
The Root of This Family Tree
Imam Ali (A.S) was raised from childhood in the household of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W), his cousin, and is widely regarded as the first male to accept Islam. He later married the Prophet’s daughter, Fatema (S.A), and stood beside him through every hardship of the early Muslim community in Mecca and Medina. He went on to serve as the fourth Caliph of Islam from 656 to 661 CE, and is honoured as the first Imam of Islam — the point from which this entire family’s lineage begins.

A Fountain of Learning
The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) is remembered as having described himself as the city of knowledge, with Imam Ali (A.S) as its gate — a saying that has shaped his enduring reputation as one of the foremost scholars and jurists of the early Muslim community.
The Peak of Eloquence
His sermons, letters and sayings were later gathered into Nahj al-Balagha (“The Peak of Eloquence”), a collection still studied today for its guidance on justice, governance, and the inner life of faith.

HIS PASSING
Martyrdom in Kufa
On the 19th of Ramadan, 40 AH, Imam Ali (A.S) was struck while leading the dawn prayer in the Grand Mosque of Kufa by Ibn Muljam, a member of the Kharijite sect. He passed away from his wounds two days later, on the 21st of Ramadan.
He was laid to rest in Najaf, Iraq, at what is now the Imam Ali Shrine — and it is from him that this family’s thirty-six generation lineage, traced all the way to Syed Md Abrar Ali Al Quaderi, begins.
