THE WOMAN BEHIND THE NAME
Fatema Zehra (S.A) lived close to the heart of the first Muslim community. Her story is inseparable from the life of her father, her marriage to Imam Ali (A.S), the upbringing of her children, and her own voice as a woman of worship, learning and conviction.
Fatema was the daughter of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.W and Lady Khadijah al-Kubra. Islamic biographical traditions preserve her as the youngest or one of the youngest daughters of the Prophet, and as the daughter whose bond with him was exceptionally close.
Her mother, Khadijah, was the first wife of the Prophet S.A.W.W and one of the earliest believers. Fatema's childhood therefore unfolded in a household at the centre of the earliest Islamic mission, marked by sacrifice, worship and steadfastness.
Accounts of her life emphasize worship, generosity, modesty, patience and courage. Her spiritual life was not separated from responsibility: she cared for her family, supported the Prophet S.A.W.W and later spoke publicly on matters she believed concerned truth and justice.
In well-known narrations preserved in major Islamic hadith collections, the Prophet S.A.W.W described Fatema as a part of him and linked his own hurt to what hurt her. Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim both preserve this saying.
A PROPHETIC TESTIMONY
The honour of Fatema Zehra (S.A) is not only preserved in later biography. A famous prophetic statement is recorded in major hadith collections.

HER FAMILY
Her family became one of the most important branches of the household of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.W. Through Fatema Zehra (S.A), the descendants of the Prophet continued through Imam Hassan (A.S) and Imam Hussain (A.S).
Fatema Zehra (S.A) married Imam Ali (A.S). Their home is remembered in Islamic literature for simplicity, worship, mutual responsibility and the upbringing of Hassan, Hussain, Zaynab and Umm Kulthum.
Her children became major figures in Islamic history. Hassan and Hussain were beloved grandchildren of the Prophet S.A.W.W; Zaynab later became known for her courage and eloquence in the aftermath of Karbala.

QUR'AN & THE HOUSEHOLD
Several Qur'anic passages are closely associated in Islamic literature with the Prophet's household and with Fatema Zehra (S.A) and her family.
The verse of purification speaks of Allah's will to remove impurity from the People of the Household and purify them thoroughly. Hadith al-Kisa connects the Prophet S.A.W.W, Ali, Fatema, Hassan and Hussain with this passage in a major strand of Islamic interpretation.
In accounts of the Mubahalah with the Christians of Najran, the Prophet S.A.W.W brought Ali, Fatema, Hassan and Hussain. This event has long been discussed as a powerful indication of the exceptional spiritual standing of this household.

FADAK & HER PUBLIC VOICE
The Sermon of Fadak is one of the most famous speeches attributed to Fatema Zehra (S.A). It is preserved in early literary and historical works and is notable for its Qur'anic language, theological reasoning and forceful appeal to justice.
Fadak was a productive oasis in the Hijaz associated with the Prophet S.A.W.W. After his passing, a dispute arose over its status and whether it should remain with Fatema or be treated as communal property. Fatema went to the Prophet's mosque and delivered a public address before those gathered there.
